What makes up my policy?

Your Hire & Reward insurance supplies cover for professional drivers who carry pre-booked passengers, food deliveries and parcels in return for payment. The certificate of insurance will be issued to follow both Uber and Uber Eats requirements.

As with a standard car insurance policy, you can also choose the level of cover you want, from third-party all the way up to fully comprehensive.

Third-party only – You will be covered for any damage caused by you or another driver insured on your policy, to someone else’s vehicle, property or person. However, you and your vehicle will not be covered.

Third-party, fire and theft – As well as covering third parties, vehicles and property from damage caused by your Uber, this policy will also pay out if your car is stolen or damaged by fire.

Fully comprehensive – This option provides the most extensive level of protection you can buy. It includes all the cover listed above, as well as paying out for any damage to your vehicle or an injury to yourself. A comprehensive policy also comes with extended cover such as windscreen repair, money & accessories protection, signwriting and much more.

What Policy Extras are Available?

As well as choosing the type and level of Uber insurance cover you require, there are also several extras you may wish to consider. These allow you to tailor your policy to meet your specific needs.

Including:

Breakdown cover – This can be added to Uber insurance policies to recover your vehicle and get you back to work more quickly in the event of a breakdown. It may also include onward travel to get your passengers to their destination.

Unlimited mileage cover – Some Uber insurance policies set a maximum limit for the mileage you can drive in a year. However, this can be restrictive therefore, unlimited mileage cover will let you drive your vehicle as much as you like.

Excess Protection – An excess is payable on fault claims made under your policy. You can insure against this risk and different cover levels are available.

Legal Expenses – A policy that covers you for losses that are not automatically covered on your policy, even for non-fault accidents like personal injury.

FAQs

    1. What do I need to be an Uber driver?

Legal requirements are:

      • You need a private hire licence from your local council. Uber can also help through their Ignition Programme which aims to help you get started as a partner driver.
      • You need private hire insurance as personal cover won’t be valid when driving for hire and reward. This is where Clegg Gifford can help.

Your vehicle must be in good condition and free of cosmetic damage. In some locations, such as London, you’d also be asked to ensure your vehicle is free from commercial branding.

We can also insure drivers:

      • Of any age with no lower age limit requirement
      • Who possess a UK and EU driving licence
      • Without Taxi badge experience

2. Can anyone else drive my Uber for social or domestic purposes and be covered by my insurance policy?

Yes, but only if they are named as an additional driver on your Uber policy. They also need to be a licenced Uber driver to be eligible. Alternatively, you can request written permission from your licensing officer to allow anyone to drive your vehicle.

3. What if I make a change to my Policy?

We are legally required to notify Uber if you make a change to your vehicle, address, or if you cancel your insurance policy with us.

It is important to note:

    • You must continue to upload your insurance documents to Uber in the normal way. Once Uber has approved your insurance, they will contact you.
    • Although we send updates to Uber when you make a change or cancel your policy, this does not mean these changes will be approved. Uber will review the documents and let you know if there are any issues.
